Description
Large festive serif lettering in cream and muted gold brings a historic text to focus: ‘And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. JOHN 1:5’. The upper half is dominated by ‘And the’ and a dramatically drawn ‘light’, with tall ascenders and pronounced loops, carefully filled in with engraved-style hatching and fine parallel shading.
On a flat gray background, each ornate letter has sharp mustard-gold outlines and dark brown drop shadows that lift the words just forward enough to keep their detail visible. The effect is deliberate—a studied contrast between text and ground, and a subtle interplay between highlight and shadow within each letter form.
Between text blocks are slim gold rules, with a centered diamond below ‘the’ and again below ‘darkness;’, giving the setting a measured rhythm. The lines below carry the remainder of the passage as smaller, spaced capitals, with a final thin underline tying off the layout.
