Description
Two layers of lettering define the artwork, each handled with a sharp sense of weight and spacing. The largest graphic begins with LA in bold yellow, using a blocky, contemporary slab-serif, right above a much heftier version of BASCULE in deep blue. On careful inspection, the word BASCULE—French for seesaw—arches slightly upward, every letter tightly pressed into the next for a packed look, each with flat slab-shaped serifs and geometric edges.
Further down, there’s a repeat of LA BASCULE, this time in a smaller, solid yellow, stretched horizontally underneath with a compact underline that halts after the final letters. Both designs keep to their strong sense of structure, never spilling beyond the open white backdrop. Negative space is put to use, giving the forms plenty of breathing room while drawing attention to the contrast between the two layers.
All lettering is in uppercase, with no stylized symbols—only graphic weight and color set the pieces apart. Every element is translated into embroidery for the classic dad hat silhouette, making the layers of font and line work feel densely textured and dimensional up close.
LA BASCULE translates to “the seesaw” in French, which hints at movement or a sense of balance. Suits anyone drawn to graphic typographic design or French references, good for everyday wear or as a gift.
