Description
The first thing that draws attention is the lone park bench, shown from behind, its slatted wood dusted with snow that forms little mounds at the top and base. What is easy to miss are the fine green lines in the wood grain, interrupted by cream highlights that trace the natural pattern and accent the snow cover, while grass tufts peek from under one leg as if anticipating a change in weather.
Above the bench is a quiet river, itself a flat plane marked sparingly by cream ripple lines. Across its width runs a long stone crossing, a natural division between the near park and the clustered city beyond. The skyline consists of rectangular domes of buildings and, above them, a single pointed tower marks the mountain top.
The composition uses only olive-green and cream for the illustration, set onto a solid grey ground. Most subtle is the bare branch arching across the upper section, budding with teardrop-shaped leaves outlined in green and highlighted in cream—suggesting winter’s fading grip above the city.
