Each letter is drawn with intent, heavyweight capitals pressed into three crowded lines. Their abrupt angles and shifting fills, from deep navy to a dry red, flicker through the block, divided sharply by mustard-yellow insets and thread-thin shadow marks. Among them, a yellow I lands as quietly as a pawn among pieces, and the words Rematches Ruin Our Bedtimes appear almost woven together by pressure and compression.
To the side, a chess clock drawn in hatchwork navy and yellow puts two tightly wound dials at the story’s center. Red clock hands join the same red as the letters, pointing to late hours. Jutting buttons and a trio of painted rays nearly hint at alarm, while a yellow knight gently crosses onto the clock’s side.
