Blue contouring and white letter interiors give Sans mérite a crisp, cut-paper contrast, with the type rising in a broad arch from each end to its high middle. The French words mean “without merit,” though the drawing treats them with deliberate weight: upright serif characters are packed close enough for several blue outlines to meet.
