Description
The graphic begins with cream lettering on a gray ground, but the real focus is the gothic wordmark at the top. Each letter of ‘The LORD’ takes on a jagged, distressed blackletter shape, as if worn into wood or pulled threads along the edges—a look heightened by sharp, asymmetric serifs and visible crosshatch texture inside each form. The thin gold outline at the edge of the letters keeps the bold text distinct from the gray base.
Beneath this, the phrase ‘is my shepherd;’ appears in a cream serif italic that is less forceful but still commands attention. It runs nearly the full width of the line and breaks up the heavy composition above with its softer curves and angled stroke endings. Below this, a thin gold rule marks a boundary for the phrase ‘I shall not want.’, which is set in small, spaced capitals at the heart of the piece.
The composition keeps nearly all its weight up top, crowding the main words together and leaving empty space at the bottom and sides. That tension, with wide negative gray both between and around the text, lets the words become almost architectural.
A gold ‘PSALM 23:1’ suspend the reference at the base, the smallest set of text present but set off by both spacing and color. Details such as the way the gold outline subtly glows against the gray, and the uneven serifs at the top, confirm the intent to convey something worn and enduring.
