Design story & product details
Where the word ‘BOATHOUSE’ settles just above a slim oval, delicate curling flourishes rest on each side—an easy-to-miss detail within all the grain and stippling. The whole scene arranges itself on a dense grey field: jagged, overlapping letters for the phrase ‘THE SEA’ lean at restless angles, cloud-like halftone shading adding a weatherworn density to the cream-block faces.
Below, a halting wooden bridge or dock, drawn with sharp cracks and splintered ends, perches on a meticulously dotted and barnacled shoreline. Black bolts pin a metal hinge over one board, and the whole structure runs diagonally, as if perched mid-collapse or suspension. Below that, the reflected dock appears in thin, wavering lines—mirroring the above, but liquid and unsure.
At the bottom margin, ‘UNDER THE DOOR’ runs in bold, uneven block letters, shadowed in black. The grey space on each edge goes mostly empty, directing all attention to the layered textures at the center and the uneven interplay of letters and linework.
