Design story & product details
The pages are blank. An old book lies open in grey and off-white stipple, drawn like an engraving, and nobody has written a word in it yet. A pencil rests in the gutter with a strip of cloth knotted around it just under the eraser, and the lower corner of the right-hand page has started to curl. On this men’s oversized heavyweight crewneck t-shirt, that unwritten page carries the joke: the lettering reads I Owe the Villain an Apology, and the apology itself has not been started.
- Cream blackletter capitals are pasted on rough black scraps of torn paper with pale ragged edges, and the smaller word the tilts on a scrap of its own.
- Thin scrollwork curls inside the strokes of the opening I and the V of Villain, which is the largest line and leans slightly as its letters overlap the top of the book.
- The last two words run uphill on a deep red torn strip, held at its left end by a metal paperclip.
Behind the pencil, a sliver of paper with a faint grid and a sprig of leaves pokes up like a page torn from another notebook. The whole thing reads as a collage someone assembled at a desk after finishing the last chapter and changing their mind. It suits readers who finish a book siding with the wrong character, and it makes an easy gift for a book club friend.
