Description
A circular seal design in deep eggplant sets a studied tone against the heathered grey of the unisex longsleeve. The double-ring border is worked with curved lettering: ‘INSTITUTE OF COASTAL FORMS’ and ‘SHELL STRUCTURE ARCHIVE’, set off by small dot separators. The establishment date, 1932, is set subtly into the lower right border, keeping the orientation balanced.
Three stacked lines of the word ‘SHELL’ in an arched, bold serif cut claim the center. The distressed texture in the letterforms—noticeably visible on the top and bottom ‘SHELL’—adds dimension and the look of wear, as if the seal were lifted from archival materials. A small diamond motif grounds the central stack underneath.
Draped into the right of the circle is an intricate chambered nautilus, drawn with layered stipple and dense cross-hatching that fade from shadow into light along each spiral. The shell’s placement intentionally crowds into the lettering, creating an asymmetric arrangement that leaves the left portion of the mark more open. Designed with close attention to line and type, the artwork would appeal to those with an interest in coastal studies, natural forms, or institutional graphics.
