Gold and deep green play against each other, creating a striking effect where the heavy, narrow “QUARRY” arches upward and “SWIMMERS” settles in a dense serifed curve. The gold letters are rimmed and shaded with fine hatching, offset by curling scrollwork that extends in leaflike forms to bracket the scene. Pale banners mark the year and the way in, each edged carefully within the artwork.
Descending diagonally from the left, a set of pale stone steps cuts through the green stipple, leading into water darkened by shadow and crossed by brilliantly irregular lines at their submerged edge.
