Design story & product details
Large blackletter, tall and tight, declares “SHORE LOOKED CLOSER FROM SHORE” across jagged blocks of cream and black, each angular letter alternating with the background. Cream diamonds open the text, and a dramatic curling S forms the entrance. At the upper right, a slanted filmstrip frames the words “OPEN WATER” in red above a shadowy sea and sharp horizon.
Just below that, a scrap of torn cream paper works as a rough map, pieced with dashed red, circular markers, and a clearly penned “RETURN LEG,” its route interrupted by a drawn paper clip. Down nearer the bottom, a swimmer—viewed from behind in a red swim cap and black straps—climbs with both hands on bent ladder rails. A detail that becomes obvious on closer inspection: those rails are crisscrossed by red bands as they descend through stippled water, foam, and heavy scratches.
The lower part almost brims with wave marks, dense stippling, and scraped linework, ending in thick cream foam by the lowest ladder step. Small birds and compass-like stars float through the largest open patches.
