The paved road curves away with its yellow center line, and nobody is riding on it. Three gravel riders have turned onto the dusty track past a wooden post with an orange arrow, and the lettering on this hoodie says why: The road gets smoother. We turn here. The best detail is the knobby rear tire right up front, throwing a spray of pebbles toward you.
