Design story & product details
Lettering travels vertically in tall, narrow forms, each cream face edged by a thick plum outline and shadow. The quoted phrase, “WHAT WE NOTICE BECOMES OUR WORLD,” builds in crowded rows, with the two upper lines using especially elongated uppercase serifs and the lowest line drawn smaller in near-solid plum. Inside the pale letter interiors, closely spaced diagonal hatch marks run along sections of the strokes, and tiny flecks interrupt the flatness, giving every word added detail on inspection.
Spacing between the rows is minimal, so the artwork stacks the message into a compressed block. The oval within the O is extremely slim, and letters like C and E are left largely open along their right edges, making their shapes almost abstract up close. The short outlined bars on either side of the smaller bottom row serve as subtle brackets to wrap the final phrase.
On a unisex longsleeve T-shirt, the focus is on how letterforms build meaning visually as well as linguistically.
