Design story & product details
The helmet’s dangling lever drops just past a tangle of thorny rose stems, as if caught in their path. Dense clusters of Gothic capitals, outlined and stippled for depth, structure the scene in two sweeping lines: EARTH HAS and BETTER FLOWERS. Breaking through these rows, swept by sinuous thorns, the detailed rose rises from a mass of angular stones and loose soil, rooted firmly inside the helmet—its round fasteners and ribbed neck ring picked out in careful detail. The smaller serif words, GROWN IN ORDINARY SOIL, cluster beneath the helmet, hugged at either end by branching borders of thorns.
- Dark cream ink is tightly hatched for a textured, engraved look
- Bold Gothic capitals are crowded, tall and heavily shadowed
