Description
The first thing that caught my attention is the magpie perched on the leopard’s shoulder, a pairing that feels both improbable and intentional. The leopard lies across a gnarled branch, front paws precisely crossed, its yellow gaze fixed and direct. The fine white whisker lines have a careful arc, set against fur painted in deliberate black rosettes on a tan coat. Every inch of the background is kept spare except for clusters of blue-green pine needles and a sun rendered as a perfect red-orange disc. There’s a small squirrel, striped like a chipmunk and grasping a red berry, low near the gathered foliage—easy to miss at first.
The only lettering visible is an italic caption reading “Leopard and Pine — Folk Art,” which gives the name for the scene shown.
