Flanked by a brick-red column on the far left, the framed poster is ruled by colour contrasts—a deep mustard-yellow sky against teal and olive boughs, moderated by the pale moon and fine black outlines. Gouache-inspired blocks are loosely stacked, from the ornate dancheong eave and solid pavilions down to the water’s mirrored edge.
The palace garden isn’t built with gradients: tree canopies and tiled rooftops are bordered crisply, each shape layered over the next, giving a sense of old architectural order in a modern painterly style. Under the pavilion, the repetition of gray stone steps and walls creates horizontal intervals that separate garden spaces, a small touch articulated by tiny dark lines.
Every lotus leaf at the water’s edge is oversized and imperfect, exactly as they grow in the garden pools of Changdeokgung; several pink blossoms and bare stone steps break up the surface. The artwork carries no Korean or English wording.
