Design story & product details
The artwork leaves plenty of open space around a diagonally breaching humpback whale, letting the sprays and jagged waves feel loose and untamed. Large serif letters, thickly outlined and filled with dark hatching, crowd the upper portion, reading that familiar phrase—repeated again in a streamlined band of small capitals within the waves below. The whale, rendered in deep tones with gentle cream and teal accents, stretches its long flipper right through the main text in one motion. Cream throat grooves, speckling, and teal scratches bring out its surface texture, softly breaking up the dark body and making its movement believable.
A closer glance reveals a shield-shaped motif with “Humpback Whale” and “Surface Behavior” in crisp cream type, set off by fine horizontal bars and structured lines. Teal and cream splashes scatter over and beyond the whale, while distinct gaps remain beside its head and flipper, creating dimensional pauses in the print.
