Description
Near the bottom edge, a cluster of slender reeds emerges behind stippled rocks, their forms captured with airy, feathery brushwork. The willow trunk at left twists upward from the border, each textured stroke showing decades of growth as it arches and divides toward the emptier right-hand side. Every brushstroke in the leaves is placed so none repeat the next, and the muted hues make them recede and tangle together, distinct from the sun-bleached paper behind.
Atmosphere builds quietly in the print—what first reads as pale space on the upper right is untouched paper, anchoring the more detailed riverbank and dense foliage below. The river is barely defined, a few gentle washes and faint ripples dividing dark land from the distant, fading tree-lined hills in the background. A red seal mark at the lower right corner reveals the artist’s hand but contains no readable words, its carved shapes dissolving into the grain of the old paper.
- Traditional ink-and-wash style on textured, age-toned paper.
- The only mark besides the artwork is an artist’s seal with illegible characters.
- No visible lettering or words are included on the print itself.
