Bold, torn rectangles overlap in a tight, collage style, each block alternating cream and black backgrounds with dense capitals that spell out the phrases DRESSED FOR DINNER. and ORDERED FRIES. The letters, mostly stark in their contrast, unexpectedly flash with red: in the R of DRESSED, the D in DINNER, the O in ORDERED, and the F in FRIES, dirtied a little by red circles at the terminus of each sentence. Below the text, a shaded bare hand picks through a crowded paper cone, while—opposite—another person’s pale gloved hand grips the same container, both with sleeves and cuffs suggesting two different diners meeting over casual street food amid formality.
Peering through the collage, fragments of city life emerge. A spired heritage building, rough cobblestones, a tilted paper clip, and what looks like a vertical strip of punch-holes overlay one another. Scattered red shapes interrupt the layering, matching the type’s flashes of color. At the very bottom the labels read BRUSSELS and WALK-UP SUPPER, pointing to an ordinary evening in the city’s streets. Each element feels intentionally crowded, with little empty space left unchallenged.
