Design story & product details
Solid dark-green capitals follow the curves of two ribbons, giving Pipe And Wreath its opening line. Across those bands, the words read A Smooth Sea Never Made Made A Skilled Sailor, with the lower phrase enlarged and spread across the broader ribbon. The lettering is unoutlined and firmly filled, so its weight holds against the surrounding linework. On the Heavy Blend Unisex Crewneck Sweatshirt, the words frame the bearded figure as part of one continuous illustration.
He wears a rounded cap and an open-neck zip-front top, its pale horizontal stripes interrupted by deep shaded folds. Rolled sleeves expose crossed forearms marked with tattoos. A pipe extends to the right from his mouth, and a fine curl of smoke rises from its bowl. One easily missed choice is the white breathing room left between the upper torso and the foliage at either side.
Braided ropes and pointed leaves, each leaf drawn with visible veins, close around the figure in a dense oval. A curled upper ribbon travels behind his head, while the foliage presses in around the shoulders. Dark green outlines are reinforced with close hatching and muted green-grey shading, with white highlights preserved through the face, clothes, ropes and leaves.
