Design story & product details
Heavy uppercase serif lettering follows the rise and dip of two cream scrolls, framing the words “A Smooth Sea Never Made A Skilled Sailor.” In the middle, a bearded sailor in a dark cap folds tattooed forearms over a striped shirt, pipe angled to the right beneath cream smoke. The Unisex Longsleeve T-shirt carries the complete nautical composition, with the lower words bending downward through the centre of their banner.
Behind his shoulders, seabirds cross over sea and cliffs beneath a pale sun, with a small lighthouse appearing near the shoreline. The forearms hold an unusually dense set of small motifs: a sailing ship, bird, anchor, compass-like circle and waves. Those marks make the sailor’s crossed pose feel less like a silhouette and more like an illustrated record of seafaring symbols.
Thick ochre rope makes a full enclosure around the scene before looping out beside the stylised waves, while a gold-toned anchor overlaps the lower edge. Dark green-black shading and fine hatch marks work through the cream areas, giving the banners, smoke and background their worn graphic texture. The crowded image stops cleanly within the rope, leaving the surrounding margins empty.
