Near the lower edge, the scalloped banner quietly marks “1592” with the same aged, cream-toned finish as the shielded hulls rising from darkly shaded water. The ornate border is decorated with scrollwork and wave motifs, cinching the artwork within a frame that highlights each ship and surge.
A dragon-headed turtle ship at the center draws the eye, but there’s more in the careful spacing of its escorts—smaller vessels echo its armor and battened sails, growing smaller as they recede toward mist-ringed rocks. All Korean elements are pictorial, and there is no Korean text; the meaning is present in the legendary shape of the geobukseon.
