"Apple Tree Woven Basket Tee" Heavyweight Unisex Crewneck T-shirt

Three short navy strokes hang above a single red apple, and that is how you know it is falling. The apple has one leaf still on its stem and is headed for a wide, shallow basket below. On this crewneck t-shirt the whole scene is a woodcut-style apple tree, its trunk twisting upward in a slow S-curve under a crowded canopy of olive-green leaves, with eight more red apples still on the branch.

The basket is not set down beside the tree. A strand of the trunk peels away partway down, splits into a few cords and weaves itself into the rim, so the tree is holding out its own bowl. The weave is drawn in rows, wider at the belly and tighter at the rim. Two apples and a leaf are already inside, which makes the one in mid-air the third to drop. The space between canopy, trunk and basket is left open, and the falling fruit has it all to itself.

The drawing is done in the manner of a carved block. The trunk is dark navy cut through with cream streaks that follow the bark grain like gouge marks, and the same cream fills the basket lattice as short dashes. Every apple carries a few pale highlight strokes on one side, and each leaf has a thin centre vein. Navy grass tufts spike around the roots.
