Design story & product details
Up and to the right of the pear’s neck, nothing is drawn. All the weight of the picture falls the other way, down into the lower right, where a loosely woven basket closes around the fruit’s wide base.
The pear itself is one large shape in flat golden yellow, leaning so the neck tips left. Rust-orange dots crowd thickly down its left flank and thin to stray specks as they cross toward the right, the way a woodcut suggests a blush with nothing but spots. A curved brown stem ends in a rough, orange-tipped knob, and a single green-black leaf hangs from it with veins cut in thin yellow lines.
The basket is made of cream strips, each scored with short black hatch marks, crossing on the diagonal over near-black gaps. In a few of those gaps the yellow of the pear shows through, which is what makes the fruit read as held inside the weave and not just behind it. Frayed strip ends curl loose at the left, the bottom left and the top right, and heavy dark outlines hold every part together on the heavyweight unisex crewneck T-shirt.
It suits anyone who likes old botanical prints, market fruit and hand-cut linework, and it makes an easy gift for a cook or a gardener.
