Design story & product details
Black and cream are the only two colours here, and they trade places constantly: the record is near-black with cream doing the work of light, while the lettering below is cream with black holding its edges. What is drawn is a vinyl record that has gone soft. It hangs folded over a twisted rope like a towel left to dry, sagging into two rounded lobes with the front one hanging lower and wider. Thin groove lines follow every bend, and the shine is built from stippled dots that sweep across the curves, so the surface still reads as vinyl even though it droops like cloth. The centre hole has stretched into a tall oval with the fold, which is the detail that sells the whole joke. The rope slants down from the upper left, its twist marked in short dark strokes.
Underneath, on this crewneck sweatshirt, two lines of condensed slab-serif capitals say Put Something Mellow On., full stop included. The second line is taller, and each letter is filled with fine horizontal engraving lines, giving the words the look of an old show poster. It suits anyone who owns more records than shelf space, and it makes an easy gift for the friend who always picks the music.
