Design story & product details
A broad back in a loose jacket takes up most of the artwork on the Heavyweight Unisex Crewneck T-shirt: a skater seen from behind as he walks up a flight of curved steps. He wears a cap, baggy trousers filled almost solid navy and flat-soled shoes, and his right hand grips a skateboard at hip height with its underside turned out. Beneath him runs one line of bold navy serif lettering: I carry this thing a lot.
The deck is the only colour in the drawing. It is a worn red, streaked with paler scratches of the kind a board picks up from ledges and rails, and its trucks and wheels stay navy like everything else. The steps bend away to the right in long arcs, their risers speckled and dripping as if the ink ran. His rear heel is lifted mid-stride, so the climb reads as still in progress.
Everything apart from the board is made in a single dark navy, used two ways: thin outline for edges and solid fill for shadow. The jacket folds are jagged, brush-like strokes, and the lighter tone of the jacket, the steps and the hand is simply the shirt showing through where no ink was laid. The lettering is solid, with no outline. It suits anyone who has spent more time walking back up a stair set than rolling down it, and it makes an easy gift for a skater who can laugh about that.
