Design story & product details
An open book takes up most of the drawing, seen from the reader’s own eyes as it rests on two raised knees. Both pages are blank cream, and one leaf is caught halfway through its turn, standing up in a tall curve before it falls. The left hand pinches the top of that leaf while the right thumb holds down the lower corner of the facing page. On this crewneck sweatshirt the view lines up oddly well with the wearer’s own lap.
The clothes around the book do not match. The left arm comes in wearing a rust orange knit with thick ribs, the right arm is in mid blue with a neat ribbed cuff, and the two legs split between deep navy and that same mid blue. At the foot of the spine a small loop of binding shows where the pages meet, and the stacked page edges are ruled in thin lines on both sides.
The whole thing is drawn like an old engraving. The hands are cream with navy cross-hatching over the knuckles, the underside of the turning leaf is shaded in fine dots that run from near-black at the gutter out to plain cream, and the fabrics carry a grainy woodcut texture. The lower edge of the drawing breaks off ragged and rounded. It suits someone who reads on the sofa most evenings, and it makes an easy gift for a friend in a book club.
