Description
On this ceramic mug wrap, a tilted view of a worn tenement unfurls in densely worked crosshatching, the brickwork traced from foundation to weathered roofline. The bold diagonal lettering, ‘One Window Still Lit’, cuts across the upper stories, its thick black outline and cream fill slightly chipped and marked, as if aged by time or weather. Architectural features press in closely: drawn shutters, suspended lamps, and a tightly zigzagging fire escape on the right. The textured rendering of corrugated shop shutters at the bottom forms a solid base.
One high window alone glows with amber-yellow light, the shape of a woman seated at a table outlined inside, cup in hand and a teapot at her side. Below, in slender serif capitals, ‘Above the Closed Shops’ is set into a shadowed band among the ground floor’s shuttered storefronts. The art leaves no space unworked but the even grey that frames it, giving weight to every brick and window line. Lettering is in English only.
